krstms and Potter Watch...and anyone else due to hatch around the 23rd

Oh I'm sorry you lost some new2chooks. I had read that you can sometimes save the babies with the intestine problem by putting on a bandaid. Unfortunately mine was too bad by the time I read that. I hope it lives for you. My curly toed baby is straightening out some. I read you can give them vitamins and it sometimes helps so I gave him polyvisol vitamin drops and he is improving so far without having to make him any boots. Cant wait to see some pictures of your little ones.

Nova-I'm glad your gonna keep trying-I hope the next hatch goes better for you!

Here's the pics. Sorry it took so long. Computer difficulties.

The first 2 out.

This is the 4 healthy ones. The BR was really gummy because I had to help the one that injured itself. The other ones were trying to pick at her injury. Notice the MOOSE welsummer next to the BR. No idea why it's so much bigger than the other 2. Also the other 2 are lighter in color.

Cute chickies! I still just have the two that have hatched and the other one that had pipped has finally started to zip. Still waiting on the other 18.

ETA: The third one has hatched! No other pips or anything at this point.

How's your humidity doing with the egg carton in there?

I planned on hatching from the egg carton, but changed my mind at the last minute. After seeing the first ones hatched kicking all the eggs around, I think I will do it in the egg carton next time.

The humidity has been fine. The only problem I have had with the cartons was that after the first couple chicks hatched, they must have pushed the sponge I have in there over against one of the cartons and it started soaking up water from the sponge. I transferred the eggs to a new carton when I took the chicks out to put them in the brooder.
