Hello! Got stung by the chicken bug a few months ago and after looking all over Kuwait to find the chicken breeds I wanted to no avail, I ended up ordering 30 hatching eggs from a Turkish instagram account who has sold to people in Kuwait before.

I ordered the following:
6- Lavender Ameraucana
6- Black Copper Marans
6- Cream Legbars
6- Blue Laced Red Wyandotte’s
6- Black Australorps

Soon after I made the purchase I ended up buying an Rcom max50 incubator, a couple weeks later, a candling light.

I decided to setup the incubator at the companies recommended settings of 37.5 deg C (99.5 f) at a humidity of 45% for the first 18 days with hourly turning.

5 days after I made the order for the eggs, they had arrived, so I hurredly placed them into the incubator to let it begin to do its magic.

12 days into incubation and I started to candle the eggs, unfortunately 10 of the eggs looked quite porous and showed no development so I took them out and cracked them open to find only broken yolks. 20 eggs left, 5 of which are still questionable. Some of the Marans I just cant tell as the light is unable to penetrate the shell. Unfortunately all the Australorp eggs are a no go.

Day 18 I bumped the humidity up to 60%, day 19 had the first pip and on day 20 was the first hatch, which was closely followed by another few hatches that same night.

I had to assist hatch the first pipped egg as it had not broken free for over 36 hours. After a candling I found that it had pipped on the wrong side and was malpositioned. So I opened up the egg on the side the airsac was on and appied some coconut oil which revealed that it was still early so I left the chick alone for a while. Almost 12 hours later and it hatched itself the rest of the way out, that chick has a slightly deformed/mispositioned leg, but it walks ok on it and it seems to be getting better.

The final results of the hatch are:
5/6 - Lavender Ameraucana (one was born white)
2/6- Black Copper Marans (one was born white)
0/6- Australorps
1/6- Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
2/6 - Cream Legbar

One of the cream legbar eggs had an almost hatched chick in it, however due to malpositioning and being unable to pip for air, it had suffocated in its egg.

I’m raising them outdoors as temperatures in Kuwait currently fluctuate from 33 c (91.5 f) at night to 46 c (115 f) during the day. Also switched their bedding to one that can hold more moisture to keep them cool.

Forgot to mention the last picture in my previous post is the most recent from earlier today, so I’ll try to keep this thread updated on a weekly basis with their progression.

The chicks only pant during the hottest times of the day, otherwise they seem very comfortable and full of energy!

Thank you! I never realised how rewarding it would feel to hatch out your own eggs, it reminded me of a game I use to play as a child called Tamagotchi back in the 90’s, where you’d raise a digital egg to hatch

Be careful on the outside, the 115 part may be a bit much for them yet, otherwise good job DAD and keep us updated. Oh and can't you get a refund on the eggs that did not make it or a resend or something?

Thank you, I actually ended up with the number of chicks I had originally wanted before I ordered! Although the numbers of each breed and sex admittedly aren't.

Thanks Yea I'm keeping a watchful eye on them checking on them every few hours, I have the luxury of being able to work from home and the chicks are literally on the other side of the wall from me. Already had to "help" one of the little ones today because they are at the point of where they are just learning to jump and stretch their wings, and he/she ended up getting chased around by my two hens. I heard the distress chirps and got the chick back with its flock within 10 seconds.

I kept the provider of the eggs up to date with the same pictures I posted here, along with video's of my receipt of the eggs, the full candling of each egg, etc. He expressed his regret for the unhatched / unfertilized eggs and said he would provide me with 18 eggs free of charge on my next order, which I've decided to hold off on until probably around October once temperatures begin to lower.
