KUMMER POULTRY FARM: Any Experiences?

I love the pics of the Mahoganies he has on his website: gorgeous birds! How heavy did yours get? I'm interested because he told me in an email that he rarely weighs his birds. He did say that the Mahoganies were a good bit heavier than the Spangled's.
By your incubator-egg comment, I take you to mean: if you're gonna get a cheap incubator, better get more eggs 'cause a cheap incubator won't hatch a small number very well. Am I right?

My Orloffs are about 6-8, I would guess. maybe a bit lighter on the hens. I think they are a wonderful temperament.

On the incubators, it goes like this: If you plan on hatching more than a few times, the failure rate will add up to the cost you might have invested in a better incubator. I incubate constantly and have hatched thousands. I have the very expensive RCom and the uber-cheap Little Giant. It's clear that when eggs are precious you will always do better with an RCom. The cost of the lost eggs has certainly added up to another RCom, despite getting it down to a science. The time it takes to clean the LG well, the inefficiency...it just isn't worth the initial savings if you can scrape together the funds for the RCom. Furthermore, you can always sell the RCom for nearly what you paid for it on ebay. Guaranteed.

I wouldn't give mine up unless it was being pried from my cold, dead hands.

I still have tons of LGs, but the precious eggs go in the RCom.

I believe I did have a couple but I culled them out. I was not interested in raising Gold Duckwings at that time.

I believe Mark Montgomery has some but not sure how far he did with them in quality wise.

I ran across a guy on the web who breeds some nice-looking birds. He's a German immigrant who breeds Russian Orloffs, Welsummers, Barnevelders, and a few bantam breeds as well. He also sells hatching eggs for these breeds. He owns "Kummer Poultry Farm". He says that he helped to bring one of his breeds--I think it was the Barnevelder or Welsummer--into the American Standard of Perfection. He sells hatching eggs for $48 per dozen. Here's a link to his website: http://kummerpoultryfarm.com/default.aspx
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with him and his birds. If he's genuine, than he possibly is selling some of the best purebred stock ever: namely, German lines. But I was just wondering since I am exploring my poultry options.
Thanks!

Erhard was pleasant to talk with and I was impressed with the extent of his knowledge. I ended up purchasing four Barnevelder chickens from him. It was a nice day.
