I think I’ve finally gotten a little bit of an answer on my mystery bird color, it may be an off shoot of the German Pastel line. This is a collection, not a specific gene, rather it is a bunch of genes that produce a certain effect when combined and it doesn’t always breed true even within the collection. I contacted the original breeder and they mentioned they had German Pastel in the flock. I couldn’t find much online but I’ve noticed the same ‘cloudy’ effect in several of my birds including my original mystery bird, severall scarlet birds, and a Blau bird, I also wonder if it contributes to thieving otter’s black and dark and stormy lines. I just hatched a black Tibetan that rivals my actual tof black (no relation!). Fee is supposedly a big part of the effect but not sure how it works if it also produces a Grau fee in some birds but black/dark and stormy in others? Maybe another gene in there? It is really interesting but also rather confusing. Has anyone had experience with this line? I have an apricot colored bird, several red/orange/chocolate, a black black, and a Blau, very cool effect just wish I could figure out heredity! At least it explains why it isn’t reliably transmitted!
