Labeled as black star pullets, but looks like a cockerel.

black stars are supposed to be sex linked, but I've noticed lately a bunch of people on here with sex links with female coloring but male traits. I wonder if its un-informed breeders going 2nd gen on them and expecting to still have sex links. I believe the 1st pic is a cockerel.

TSC said they originated from Hoover's Hatchery and they are supposed to be Barred Rock hen and a Rhode Island Red cockerel crosses and based on the coloring they should be female, but the mannerisms and some of the traits of at least one if not two of the birds seem more cockerel than pullet all the sudden. My only guess is if they are in fact boys, they put the wrong label on the birds. They all had black heads with no dots, so I was feeling pretty confident until this past week. Either way, I'll update the thread so others will see what happens with the sexing of the birds.

I, too experienced the male sneaking in black star bin at TSC. i did my research and knew they would be females, but this one is definitely a cockerel. Guess it isnt 100%. And they werent selling any other black chicks at the time

this was taken two months ago...ezmerelda...ahem...ezra crows and is starting to fight the other roos lol. Love him tho

He does have a beautiful sheen, but that would have been a mix-up at the hatchery since the sex links were the only black chicks att the time. I thought it odd that he had white tips on his wings, beautiful, thats why i picked that one
