So I have a hen that is five months old And I recently noticed her open mouth breathing. I separated her immediately and she is now very labored breathing shaking head often and doing a weird gasp occasionally. The only other thing I’ve noted is that her poop is very bright green. No diarrhea and no swelling or nasal discharge. I’ve tried deworming her, but I’m on day three of that and I’m scared to try to administer more dewormer in fear, she may aspirate. She’s not drinking or eating. Her comb and waddle is a deep magenta color from lack of oxygen. Anyone know or have had this experience? Everyone else seems healthy and fine. I was thinking E. coli infection… The dewormer hasn’t seemed to help so I’m guessing it’s not parasitic like gape worm. She does appear to have small white growth on the corner of her mouth… maybe avian canker 😭

I'm sorry she's not doing well.

How long has she been sick?

Can you please get photos of her, the growth in the corner of the beak, the inside of the beak and of her poop?

A video of her actions may be helpful - upload video to Youtube and provide a link or use the BYC Gallery and let us know where to find it.

What are you deworming with, dosage and product?

Check her crop and let us know if it's emptying overnight.

Can she eat/drink on her own? It would be good to get her hydrated if possible. Hold a shallow cup of water (plain, with electrolytes, etc.) up to her beak and see if she can drink on her own.

I attached a couple images above and a video below in the comments :) let me know what u think. I’m thinking Avian Canker. An no she won’t eat/drink on her own. I’ve been syringe feeding wet food and egg and water very carefully so I don’t aspirate her.
