Lady Amherst

True, forgot about the firebacks, as we never have trouble in Georgia with them, As for the argus, true too, but no one has them in captivity to amount to anything any way. Have only seen 1 man selling an argus pair, $5000.

As for the crossing of the ruffed pheasants, like Dan was saying, yes they can, any of the pheasants can if they are from the same species "group", scientific names aside, meaning like the ruffed, or longtails over one another. But that doesn't mean they are the same species of bird, Just genetically similar enough for propagation to occur if bred together.

So, can ringnecks cross with Amhersts and goldens? My guess would be no. But will they try and will they fight over each other's hens?

Sometimes you have to reveal your stupidity to improve it!!!

Yes they can. The true pheasants and the ruffed pheasants are on the same "branch", therefore offspring of the two can occasionally be fertile.

Yes Ringnecks will cross with alot of other types of pheasants.

I have seen:
Ringneck x Reeve
Ringneck x Silver
Ringneck x Golden
Ringneck x Amherst
Ringneck x chicken

I have not seen any that were fertile yet. That is why I consider them a hybrid and not a cross. (Hybrid= sterile; Cross= fertile).

The Hybrids are interesting and beautiful also.

Could you please tell me how many percent success? And could you please show pics of them. I'm very excited to see them. Thanks a lot!

It's all in text, no need to promote it. Do more research, check out the published works of Johnsgard, Delacour, et al. The Auk and other journals also document. The fertility percentage is all there to be read, no need to run the risk of ruining the fragile bloodlines in captivity by attempting it.
