Hello I just joined this and want to share the story of my chickens background information. Originally my brother bought the eggs on Ebay in 2008 and hatched them in an incubator. Only twelve hatched. I took two roosters and two hens. The first two roosters I gave to someone and the very day they were killed by a dog and that broke my heart because I loved them so much. Their names were Willie and Nugget. Then I took another Rooster to add in with Lady and Sissy. Well he was a mess because my brothers other chickens picked on him so most of his feathers were missing. Yet after two years he came back beautiful and then something happened to him one night and I never saw him again. I am assuming a predator and I mean a person or persons were responsible for his demise. I had no proof though. I failed to mention Gus was his name and he attacked and killed Sissy a year before he disappeared. Then I went to my brothers and took Wimpy. Lady was a mess until she saw Wimpy and then she was so happy again. Well I still after two years have Lady and Wimpy. They are brother and sister and now almost six years old. Lady is very friendly and Wimpy is to a point but he keeps a good eye on Lady. Its been a rocky road but they are my babies and I Love them. So much like dogs in a way. Chickens are definitely a unique choice for pets except for the poop. lol.
and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like Lady and Wimpy are great pets, neat that you have known them since they were eggs! Hope they continue to do well for you, and they are really a lot like dogs in some ways (swear some of my chickens are smarter than my dogs).
