Laid an egg....end everything else

I hope I can save her, almost 2 years and haven't lost a hen yet. I have a bit of a problem with a few pluckers in the flock... and now a few egg eaters... 49 hens and 1 rooster... we just added a second coop, but weather hasn't allowed us to get it leveled and build the run yet... but IF did put the injured hen in there to keep them from injuring her more... idk how long she can be like that before I push it back in... I was hoping the sore could heal first, or a bit... It's kind of hard to clean it off with thye scab.

This prolapse needs to be pushed in ASAP or the tissue will die. The longer it is out, the harder it will be to get back in because it will swell and dry out. Clean the vent as instructed, scrub off the poo, put honey or other lubricant on it and push it back in. Holdingit inside for a bit with her on your lap will help. It will come out again when she poops or lays an egg, but push it back.

A friend came over and helped... the tissue is pink and healthy. She pushed it back out again, so I am going to go push it back in again. I may have to bring her inside somewhere, as light is the only way to keep her warm in the coop. It hasn't been so bad lately... they didn't have the heat lamp for a week and they were all ok (hubby severed power cord with snow plow) but she is by herself now. Just got duramycin, am going to go put it in her water. Gotta go grab her and clean her up again, and goop her up with prep h again. Wish if this had to happen, it had not beenso cold :( will try to get pic... gross though. Wish me luck lol. Tyvm e1

Pushed it back in again last night, was still in this morning... have her in the tub downstairs... covered window and closed the door. Will check her fequently... thanks again e1!

That is great that it is staying in for so long. The hen I was having problems with that took a bit of work to make it stay inside decided she liked coming in the house for a visit. So far she is laying with no prolapse. It was her first winter break egg that she prolapsed on, guess as she isn't a year old yet her system needed to start all over again.

Good luck with your hen!

prolapse is what I think it was, couldnt get it back in. We had to put her down, after some further reading I'm glad thats what we choose to do.

SS yogi... sounds like was really bad... worse than mine, and it looked horrible. Sorry for your loss.

Thank you, but no apology needed. It was one of our birds we have hosted at the Elementary School. I was at the school for my weekend check-up and found her (the kids/teachers take care of them during the week).

It was pretty gruesome. Her entire oviduct came out with the egg till inside it - It looked like a balloon hanging from its string. Feathers stuck to it and poo every where. I wish I would have found her earlier to end her misery.
