Laid an open egg now lethargic

Today is her 6 month birthday. She’s been laying for a month. She didn’t lay today, not abnormal for her. She was walking then laid this double yolk, open on one end flimsy shell mess and since then has been lethargic.

I have her in an epsom salt soak, lubed her vent and felt a little inside but didn’t feel anything.

Antibiotics? I have LA-200. I’m worried because she had an open egg in her.

She is tucked in a dog crate in a closet now for dark and quiet.

Any thoughts or suggestions?!?

Did she pass the rest of the shell? If not, I would consider this an emergency. Is there any bleeding from the vent?

I don’t think there was more to shell?!? I think there was maybe another egg in the way so it couldn’t close? I can’t describe it. Her vent looked normal when we’re blow drying her but she definitely seems like she wants to do more?!

The shell looks broken to me. She may be trying to pass the rest. Is she pooping ok? Eating and drinking? Are you providing warmth? I’m not one to treat prophylactically, but I would be concerned about her oviduct being scratched/scraped and infection setting in. Do you have access to antibiotics in case she needs them? How thick is the shell? She may benefit from some calcium citrate if she’s having shell issues. @Hen Pen Jem has good knowledge on nursing a hen back to health if you are willing to go the extra mile for your girl.

She’s been completely normal until all this happened right before dusk. She is obviously acting as though something is bothering her down there. I just saw her push like she was trying to push something out. I do not have her with food and water but I have tums.
I have not had calcium supplement since they started laying and haven’t switched to layer feed yet because I still have 15 weekers too.

I have LA-200 ABs that I would give her if I need to.

We will do whatever in our power to help her. Just need to know what that is.

Oh and there is small amounts of poop passing. Nothing like her normal monstrosities.

She passed the rest!!! You were right!! I’m so relieved. I did give her an inj. of ABs because there was a small amount of blood on one corner.
Hopefully she gets to rejoin the crew tomorrow and have a new bucket of calcium to feast from.
