laid while on the roost

I watched one of my Buff Orpingtons drop a soft-shell as I was closing the coop a year ago. I thought it was a big turd but went in with a flashlight to make sure...

I found an egg on the floor this morning under the roost, as I opened the door one of the chickens was about to eat it I think, I shood it away and picked it up with a pile of bedding.
I have feeling I know which one it is, I have a Light Sussex that hasn't laid yet, the other two use the nest box, also there was no shell.

They already ate it, was probably a soft or thin shell, easily broken and fair game to eat.
