Lakenvelder questions!!!

These are mine but they can be similar to yours.

Does the patterning on their head indicate any specific gene or genes? What about that band around the "collar" area at the back of their heads that some, but not all seem to have?

Love the pix of your adults!

Hmmm, similar but definitely not the same. Mine don't have that silver coloring, it's black. Their wings are coming in black and white. One has a very prominent "v" on her head, but the other one, Teeny, doesn't.

Would you mind posting more pics of yours as they feather out?

Henk, according to your side bar thing there you are from the Netherlands. Could there be different colors of chicks throughout different countires?

Headpattern points to e^b.

Okay, so head dots and dashes point to e^b; I assume they are not always present in e^b chicks as I rarely see them on my silkies? I have seen them on some crosses (I'm working on bringing mottle & chocolate into my birds--separate projects).

Does the collar band at the back of the neck indicate anything?

All chickens are based upon one of the E-alleles (black gene).

E = extended black
E^R = birchen
E^Wh = wheaten
e+ = wild-type
e^b = brown, sometimes called partridge

The specific E-allele present has an affect on the other genes and how they display in the bird.
