Lakewood CA is where I grew up, so many years ago. It was one of the first, post world war II, master planned communities. Previously farmland, it was converted to suburbia in rapid fashion. As a kid, the city was still surrounded by agriculture with mostly Dutch dairy farms. The city enacted an ordnance early on that farming was not permitted within city limits. Personal poultry raising, eggs, not meat, was limited to no more than four hens and no roosters.
