Jack watched her from the ledge, her clumsy flight was amusing to him as she did not yet know how to fly properly.

Mali headed for the ground and landed on four paws, the ice splitting beneath the force of her massive grey paws.

The sound of the crack reached Jack's ears and he looked over, wondering if she had fallen right through.

Mali suddenly noticed the scent of uncertainty in the air. She turned her head to Jack. "I'm fine." she called. She extended her black wings out and smiled at him. "I'm still trying to figure these out." The black feathers were so black they gleamed blue. And she took off like a rocket to the pale golden sky.
(Go look up I can walk on water lyrics-- perfect theme music for the scene of Mali taking off!)

"I can breathe for the first time..." She whispered. She landed next to Jack, her paws skittering a little, but otherwise a perfect landing. "Don't laugh at me! I'm trying!" She protested, at the amused look on Jacks face. But she couldn't help smiling at her own foolishness

"Practice makes perfect, luv" He replied with a smile.

Her wing-tips twitched in amusement. She flicked her ear. "Haha. Very funny, Jack." She tucked her large wings in, trying not to hit them on the side of the mountain. Her blank eyes flashed silver for one moment, then back to a dark shade of black. She sighed and looked off in the distance, Jack unaware of what she was watching.

He stretched his wings, then settled back down with a yawn "Somethin wrong?"

Jack remained motionless, only the rise and fall of his chest proved that he was indeed living, and not a creature of stone. After a few moments he opened his eyes again and exhaled a deep breath. He looked down and caught Vlad staring up at him "Got a problem?" He growled, ruffled his wings.

"I'm not the one with the problem" Vlad snarled

Mali sighed. "Nothin much. Er, let me reword that. Nothin important to you, at least." Mali replied, not taking her solid black, and very sad eyes off the horizon. "I don't know where my pups have gone. Vlad promised they would be here soon, but..." She broke off. She shifted her weight and laid down, her wings spread out against the rock floor. After a long pause, Mali spread her wings out, stood up and turned her eyes to Jack. "I'm gonna go look for them." She said, then shot off into the pale blue sky.
