Lakia: The Dark Era

When they reached the top Alex, the falcon, was perched on the window hole, her wings tucked neatly at her sides. She broke off from her conversation with Sara when Amelia and Juniper arrived. "Amelia," she sounded relieved to see her.

"Whats going on?" Amelia asked, jumping right into the situation.

"We have recieved a report that Jack has been captured by Zenobia and is being held in her place of residence." Alex reported, she sounded breathless, as though she had traveled a great distance at a high speed to reach Kabile. "Kate has requested immediate action by you as Kabile is closest to their location. It would take several days for her to reach Jack, and she fears it may be too late. "

"How do we know he is still alive now?" Sara questioned doubtfully "Zenobia does not keep her victims for long. She has either killed him already, or is keeping him for... some other purpose."

"Some other purpose?" Alex frowned.

"Means of torture, or a way to get at Kate." Amelia explained "We all know their weakness.. each other. And I think Zenobia does too."

"If Zenobia knows that her captive is strong, she may keep him alive to use for her wishes." Juniper added, wrapping her tail around her feet. "She is unpredictable and could change her plans at a moment's notice, so if we are to do anything, it best be soon."

"I agree with Juniper." Sara said with an approving nod in her direction. "It wouldn't be the first time they used dark magic to try and turn one of us." She said darkly.

"Tell Kate we'll do what we can." Amelia told Alex, heading back towards the door. "I'll ready the soldiers, we'll meet you at the gate in 15 minutes."

Sara nodded as Amelia left, then turned to Juniper "If you chose to fight, you may. But try not to get yourself killed, our last messenger tried to play hero too."

"I'll do what I can." Juniper bowed slightly. She turned and ambled down the stairs, catching up to Amelia.

Assuming that since Juniper was following her she would be fighting, Amelia launched right into giving instructions. "Zenobia doesn't live far from here, it should take only about an hour to get there on foot, and about 20 minutes by air. The aerial troops will leave after the ground troops so we arrive at about the same time. Aaron will be leading the aerial attack, I'll be leading the ground attack. Since you'll be flying, you can go meet Aaron over there." She pointed upwards with her tail towards a large pad that was suspended on the side of the mountain. "Let him know who you are and he'll give you further instructions. Good luck."

Juniper nodded and turned to take off. She ran a little ways, the leaped into the air and took off with a powerful flap of her wings. Soon, Juniper gained enough altitude and glided right onto the place where Aaron was.

The eagle named Aaron was standing in the middle of the platform, surrounded by a group of other avian birds. He looked startled when Juniper showed up, then understanding lit his eyes. "Ahh, you must be the new messenger. Hades told me about you. Come quickly, the ground troops are just leaving. We'll follow in about 40 minutes."

"Okay," Juniper nodded and walked near the others. She did a once over of her wing feathers, making sure that they were all zipped up and none were broken or damaged.

The 40 minute wait was mostly quiet, none of the birds spoke much. Occasionally one would murmur something to another, but that was it. Finally, Aaron announced that it was time to leave. Around him, the birds leaped into the air, sending a wave of air back towards the ground. They made a loose formation around Aaron and circled once around the city, then headed out across the forest towards Zenobia. The flight was quite easy as they were traveling downhill, many of the birds simply glided, flapping their wings only to slow themselves down once they gained too much speed.
