I have a young hen (7 months) who I noticed was limping on Tuesday. She wasn’t being picked on but I separated her from the flock and have her in her own little area. I examined her and can’t see any injuries. She kind of sticks the leg out and will put it on the ground but then just hops. It looks like it’s coming from higher up in the leg, not her foot. She is eating, drinking and laying eggs. No other symptoms have come up. Is there anything I can do to help her be more comfortable?

About 6 weeks ago while doing night check I found her hanging upside down in the coop. It was just a total freak accident, she must have tried to fly down from her roost and got her toes stuck between 2 wall panels. I don’t know how long she was hanging, but I freed her, brought her inside to warm up for the night and kept a close eye on her. Aside from some minor cuts on her toes she seemed okay. She never limped at all until now. Could this limping be related to the accident? It seems weird to come up now after being fine for so long, but it’s weird that she’s lame on the same leg that was stuck.

She probably did injure herself trying to get free when stuck. Chicken's heal pretty quickly, but there may be more damage there than you can determine. If she is not getting picked on, I wouldn't worry about it. You say she is eating, drinking and laying in spite of it which is a good sign. I had a rooster almost had his leg chewed off by a feral dog and he had no use of it at all. He lived for two years after that accident hopping around.

I would keep her separated for awhile, but then watch her in the flock to make sure the others don't start pecking at her if she has permanent damage. Otherwise, the only way you will know for sure is to have a vet look at it.

So the hen is still lame, and is basically completely immobile now. Her foot is swollen so I have been giving her epsom salt soaks. The scales on her foot are raked up too. She has a strange rash(?) that has appeared on the top of her leg as well. I thought was blood, but it won’t wash off.
Her other leg is fine, and no other chickens have been showing any symptoms like this.
