Lame Duck!

I’m still at work but I can try for a video later! In that picture I think he is #1. This was him a couple of days ago lol but I’ll try for a video!

Ack well after ten hours at work and then taking care of all the dogs then ducks, I’m afraid this video is pretty useless.
So, excuse how dirty the little guy is, I basically had to chase him into a mud puddle to catch him rofl and then excuse my horrible dirty duck pen runners LOL!
Video shows me carrying the duck away from his buddies, as he kicks away just fine. Then I release him to get him walking and the dog was supposed to be keeping him off the fence to slow him down but little duck was a bit too stressed to deal with that so he’s just running along the pen.
I don’t know if you’ll be able to really see anything useful but here it is!

Poor thing running into the fence sure can't help. Are you keeping him where he has to rest his legs. Maybe it's more of his hip than legs looks like he is moving his legs pretty good. Hard to say what maybe going on but I'd treat as an injury. Injuries can take time to heal so hopefully with rest some good B complex and water therapy to take pressure off his legs he'll be good as new soon.

Whatever happened it doesn't appear too serious. Sometimes I think they just jump down off of something or trip over something and they limp for a day or two and then they are back to normal.
If it doesn't seem to be getting better you might want to put him somewhere that he has to just rest for a day or two and isn't up running around.
Niacin deficiency probably isn't the issue here since the rest are doing great, but it certainly wouldn't hurt him to give him some. :)

For sure running into the fence was not helpful :hmm the ducks are used to the dogs and are moved by them almost daily but little guy was in such a panic to get to his friends, he’d have probably run through a pack of dogs to hit that fence :barnie My fault, I should have brought a friend with him!

The 4 pastel Calls and 4 East Indies are kept shut in the pen almost 100% of the time unless I’m cleaning the houses out because the white Calls are little bullies. So the whites roam free with my big ducks in the yard lol.

He does run well and kick well when he’s upset, it’s just throughout most of the day in the pen, he spends all his time laying down near the food or in a puddle to drink and sift haha!

Thank you for the comment on my dog though! We were asked to do abherding demo at our Fall Fair and I’m so nervous about it because that dog has only been in training for 2 months and doesn’t do cool things like make them walk through a tunnel yet haha! If you think his listening is cool, hopefully others will too :yesss:

I thought y’all were probably pros. I was very impressed, are you going to be working your dog with your ducks ? I have only seen it done with sheep and was so fascinated watching it all Hopefully your little duck will heal real quick he sure is a cutie. He sure bounced off the fence real good lol

Oh definitely! That’s actually the reason I got ducks to begin with! Herding lessons on sheep were 3+ hours away in any direction. I knew ducks were used frequently at trials and demos so did a lot of research into the best breeds and started with 4 Magpies.... and fell in love, contracted duck fever and have Cayuga, Welsh Harlequin, Buff Orpington, Calls and East Indies Bahaha!
We train on a regular basis and are doing a demo at our town’s Fall Fair this year :D
