I just noticed my little Pekin Frizzle roo was limping and picked him up for a look and his foot is quite warm compared to the other one. There is no swelling or other injury but the shaft of one of his large toe feathers is broken at the base with blood around it so I'm presuming this is the cause, especially as he was quite upset when I inspected it. I have popped him into a carry crate and dabbed it with Betadine for the moment but wondering if I should trim the shaft further up or tape the foot until it heals or what? Suggestions please? Thanks in advance

Here is a pic, it looks like

the shaft is almost broken through but it isn't, the black line is where the betadine turned the blood black. I'm thinking there would be less pressure on the break if I trimmed the feather back but not sure how far I can go
