One of my Bardrock pullets had become lame all of a sudden. She is doing what I call a squat walk to get around. A little history. She has been laying since about 6 months. She seemed to have hurt her foot about 3 weeks ago. Was limping and putting little weight on the left foot. I thoroughly examined her and did not find any obvious injury. I palpated all of the bones in the leg and foot/toes. No pain when I pressed around those areas. Then, she decided to go broody on me. No eggs for 2 weeks. bummer. She came out of the broodiness walking a little better. Maybe all that time in the egg box with little acitvity was good. She layed her 1st egg after coming out of the broodiness and the next day was doing this squat walking thing. Now both legs are not working right. I looked around again. No obvious injury. She seems to be unsure of her footing. It is almost as if both feet have this mystery limp now. Of note, she is not listless, actively pecking at the gound and alert. I have seen her eating and drinking water. Not sure how much because I have to work all day. Her poop looked normal. And she continues to lay her normal egg a day. I don't medicate them. I have 5 pullets. I am in an urban setting. They did get some medicated grower while younger. Now on layer mash. I give then some extra grit and oyster shell. All the other birds are fine. Any ideas. I love this chicken. His/her name is Walter. We were certain she was a he all the way up to lay. We were so happy to have all pullets. I have a crazy looking BR pullet with the biggest comb. That is another story though. Should I investigate any diseases? Pleae help. Sorry so long winded.
