Hi All,
My 10-month old Barred Rock hen has been favoring her right leg - limping slightly and standing on one leg (the other leg) a lot. She had a bout of lameness about last Novemeber that passed in less than week but now seems to have come back. (The chickens were snowed in a lot this winter and maybe now that they are free-ranging again with the arrival of spring, they are walking more and maybe a problem that never really went away is showing up again.) The hen seems otherwise healthy and has been laying well.
I examined the hen and found two round movable masses that felt a little like grapes but only about 1/4 inch/3-4mm in diameter on the inside surface of her leg, between the skin and muscle. They were tender -- touching them seemed to cause the bird a little pain. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Would this be caused by an infection or by some kind of parasite?
Friendly greetings to all,
Poppy
