What is the deal with these chickens?

The Wikipedia lists them as extinct, yet some have mentioned a single flock still exists.

Others have mentioned that some have tried to recreate the Lamona.

Does anyone have a photograph of what one of the eggs looks like and an approximation or comparison of the size of one?

What are the facts?

I'm not even going to ask who has the birds now because if someone does have them and mentions it, it will make the birds a target for poachers. No doubt that chicken could fetch a pretty penny.

It looks delicious and I hope I get to eat one some day.

With that said, I hope who ever has these birds now is able to bring them back from the brink of extinction.

They are in the process of being recreated, and in my personal biased opinion they are looking pretty good. Last fall Steve Gerdes, who was the one who had dedicated 8 years to recreating them showed them at a show in September and after looking at them Jeff Halbach said that they were in fact Lamonas. Sadly Steve passed last fall, and his flock was split between three friends of the family. I was lucky enough to get a couple eggs last fall and have what I think is a really good trio growing out that I hope to hatch a lot of birds out from them.
Here is my cockerel, still needs to grow out his tail.

That is good to know. What a lovely bird! I am glad that you have been able to recreate the Lamona. Out of curiousity, what are the breeds that are used to create a Lamona chicken?
