Landowners....... how difficult is it to clear land for pasture?

I have to say that I am in complete agreement with Pat in that you might want to consider at least leaving an "island" of trees or a windbreak (depending upon where the trees are relative to the house/buildings) in the middle or to one side of the area you hope to clear. The people who originally bought and cleared our land left an "island" of trees to the SW of our barn and I am ever thankful that they did, especially on really hot days. Keep in mind that cleared areas just BAKE on hot days.

Otherwise, good luck on your possible new adventure!

I recently removed 40+,,, I lost count, pines that were 24-36'' in diameter.. My 38,000 Lb high lift made such a mess I sawed them down and hired a stump grinder. The backhoe took forever to dig them out and then I had to fill holes. Thats owning large heavy equiptment, my stuff wasn't right for a lawn or pasture job.

Your trees are small, pay the man 60-100 an hour with a dozer, have a bon fire when he is done grading, by spring you will have new grass.

I can show you a few pics of how mine turned out.

I drug out the pine shavings, then brushhogged it to spread more, limed it, alot I thought, still need more over the stumps, I'll add 10lb a stump soon and more seed, but it is green now except the 3' circles where the stumps were.

Sorry if someone else said the same, I didn't read the other post, with over 14,000 members and less than 12,000 chickens, too much text and hot air for me.

Anyways, I cleared a lot of pines, I can be more detailed and show before and after pics, and tell you what I'd have done diffrent and what is most cost effective,if you want to know.

PM me if I can help.
