I have a very large Australorp who is my longest-lived free-ranger so far. She is five years old and not fast by any stretch of the imagination so I am always surprised that she has managed to thrive despite the bobcat, hawks and a bout of illness that took four other chickens. Tough old bird.

That was just a guess on my part - I am notoriusly bad at estimating things that are measurements - distance, height, weight, temperature, that sort of thing. Except IQ - I am pretty good at estimating that.

How long is a grabber? Because my arms aren't terribly long. I don't think it could come close to getting me to the nest, but it might be useful for where I put the nesting boxes, so I didn't have to put my arm through the thorny vines. I'll have to look into that.
