landscape timber coop

this pattern was for an 8x8 and the cabin built on motherearth's website was 16x16
I guess I have alittle time til we move next summer to figure out if I want to do this or not. Our local home depot usually has the timbers on sale twice a year for around $2 each which is half price. It certainly is on conciteration though

Call a few local concrete contractors to see if you could find some used timbers for a lower cost. I think it's a great idea! Concrete companies use those all the time to build forms to set the concrete. My DH works in concrete construction. We have a $3000 dollar deck that cost us about $400 for the decking. The structure itself is used forms made of 3/4 inch plywood and 2x4's setting on top of a framing of timbers that were free. We have a lot of leftovers we used for the coop as well. All this ice, and ice falling on it, has not hurt it in the least. It's under 3 big Oaks. We covered with OSB and used heavy grade plastic for the winter, but the framing is timbers and a few salvaged 2x4's. Built to last
