He looks a bonny boy, Dirt Farmer, and a nice coop you have built for them too. Good luck in your hunt for a few hens for him.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once you see a Langshan in real life...there's nothing else.
Welcome to the fold dear!
Lucky you!!!! I was feeling so bad after being there a short time that I only briefly talked to the couple who were selling the 2 black cockerels in the sale barn. I was drooling over the birds that won. I didn't even think about trying to find the breeder. It seems like I excel at missed opportunities! LOL! Where are you in N CA? I'm excited that you are going to be breeding them and that you are close enough for me to buy some of your birds once you have your program up and running! If something happens and I am not able to start my breeding program this year, I will let you know. I do have 2 black pullets from Mikaela (rodriguezpoultry) and she thinks that one of them will be an excellent bird for breeding. They are around 30 weeks and not laying yet but are close.Thank you all for the warm welcome. PetRock I bought this cockerel at the Stockton show on Saturday. If you recall, there was a single cock entered that was beautiful. I looked up the owner from the exhibitor number and gave him a call. He was very helpful, and said he would sell me the cockerel he had entered in the show, or his brother that was out in the vehicle. The show cockerel had a slightly more finished tail but the one not entered seemed to have stronger legs, and I chose him. It was a good show and I made contact with two California breeders. (My bird came from AZ so he should be used to some summer heat.)
I sat on the fence too long and missed out on all the pullets.
I have ordered some hatching eggs from a breeder that shows his Langshans but was not at the show. I guess my guy will have a long wait. In the meanwhile I put him in my 6 x 8 feet isolation coop with an olive egger project pullet for company. I was surprised how quickly he calmed down with her. They were sitting together on the roost within minutes.
I have upset the apple cart. I have a Barred Rock and a Legbar that up to now have been surprisingly quiet roos. That's over.
I have only had one mean male EVER. He did NOT live long. I don't put up with that in any of my birds and try like the dickens to not breed from them. SOME people.. *cough* feed their birds by hand. DO NOT DO THIS! Don't put food in your hands. Treat them like what they are, birds. If they see you as their equal, they can tear you apart. Know them, grow to understand their ways, but you are always the top cock of the walk in ever pen you enter.Yes, I fear that I am going to have to give some consideration to whether or not they are going to replace one of the breeds I have here. I know how gorgeous they are now... what about their overall temperament though? I find that the breeds do vary a bit and so do different 'lines' of each breed. I have even heard of aggressive Silkie hens so... overall? I know all birds can't be as gentle as Favs are known to be but....![]()
If you kept your program the exhibitors showing LF Langshans were 110 (the people with the two cockerels in the sales area from southern CA, and the 1st place cockerel in the show), 83 (from central CA) and 269 (AZ, 1st place cock). Exhibitor 83 also has bantam Langshan. Phone numbers and email addresses are on the program. All friendly.Lucky you!!!! Well if that video was the lead-in to tonights local news, it would be "Dangerous Langshan attacks man's face...story at 11"I have had many breeds over the years, but never any as kind and friendly as my white Langshans. Take a peep at this video, wild birds?
