Langshan Thread!!!

Aren't those pretty? I was hoping the original poster of that photo would poke in and let us know how they developed.

On a side note, anyone need any bantam blue/black or white Langshans? I have a surplus and need to trim down.

Guess I need to screen breeders more and better. These chicks are about a month old and I noticed...barring? There's a splash looking bird with it too but didn't get a picture of it.

There is a lady on FB who is breeding barred Langshans. Her page name is Feather Hill Rare and Fancy Fowl. She posted pics of them and this is what she has to say about them:

Several of you have asked for pics of the Barred Langshan chicks. The eggs from which they hatched, originated from a long time friend of the late Forest Beauford. He has been working on the Barred for over 5 years. To my knowledge we are the only ones he has shared with. Check out the Barred Langshan album for more pics...just as soon as I get them on LOL!

I tried making Barred once, it was going really well til a coon ate my cock bird and I lost interest in project, I will have to dig around in my old photos and see if I have pictures. However that was regular black and white barring, not like this chick in the picture. Weird.

baby langshans about 5 days old now getting their cute little wing feather tips now.
any experts like rodriguezpoultry care to take a guess if these three are actually all females? I can say the yellow one mustard acts differently than the other two always either leads or straggles while the other two stick together like peas in a pod.

WAY too early. Based on the birds I've raised, they are all pretty subdued until about 4 months old when the personalities start coming out a bit more. The females and males are equally inquisitive. The males appear more tolerant than the females who are more "in your face." Pretty much both want to know what's going on at all times though.

Some lines the males will feather out much slower and it can be apparent early but yeah at least 6-8 weeks before even guesses can be made. I have always also found that compared to other breeds the difference in comb size is much smaller. (And actually this makes sense with the way the standard is written with males having medium combs and females having combs of good size but smaller than male.
