Langshan Thread!!!

That is one tall and lanky rooster Pet Rock, dang! He might turn out to be really cool if he fills out that lanky body!

Here are a couple of updated shots of my two blues for you to look at rodriguezpoultry (I am so sorry, I forgot your name, but know it starts with an "M". Just a couple weeks older than the last pics. Born late June.

So let's embarrass my rooster Gavin...he usually doesn't point his wing like that, so try to ignore it, lol. He is in disarray right now and just a droopy mess. His chest filled out over the year though. He looks so terrible molting, lol. DOH!

Hey that looks familiar! My cock bird looks exactly like that but white! I try hard not to laugh at the poor souls while they're molting.

LOL! Feel free to call me "M, Mika, ropo" really anything works! On the pullet, I like her...she reminds me of my first pullet that I wish had laid eggs. I would be ALOT further along in my breeding if she had! If you could get a side shot of her I'd love to see it!

On the blue cockerel, there's something I see that concerns me. Do you see how his back "pinches" right at the tail instead of smoothly flowing into it? That's something to definitely watch for. My males, even at a young age so their width throughout. The first sign I see a pinch going towards their back, I nix them from breeding. He has a nice tail spread which makes that pinch at the base of the tail even more exaggerated.

I would breed your Gavin to that blue pullet. It will help darken up her feathers and it looks like he has a nice width on him. Her longer back will help lengthen the backs on the chicks instead of making it look "abrupt" instead of a nice smooth flow. As for the breast on him, I'm sure it's not helped by his wing acting a fool there!

I like her color, but be wary of the cushion and pinched tail she has. The cockerel needs time but he's not bad! Congrats on your recent hatches!! :D
Thank you for pointing that out, Mikaela! I have 2 younger blue pullets (19 wks) and one looks like she has some of that cushion but the other one doesn't appear to have it. I'm going to have to watch for that and try not to breed birds with it. I also have 2 19 week old blacks, 1 cockerel and 1 pullet. The boy is crowing already so they are going to the farm this weekend. He is nice and broad with a nice tail spread. The pullet also looks nice! I wish that I could keep them here in town with me. We need to move out to the country!

Color wise I like both, lighter or darker can be preference, judges reward evenness of color more than shade I find and both appear even from the pictures. I agree with Mikaela about the tail on the pullet. The cockerel will be fine just needs to fill in his tail and I like his station. It's fun watching them grow up isn't it?
Thank you! Yes, I love watching them grow! It seems like Big Blue (haven't found a good name for him) grew overnight! My husband is only home on the weekends and he couldn't believe it when he saw how big he is. It's like having a dinosaur roaming the back yard. When he runs, he makes a thumping sound!

Thank you for posting pics of your birds, Lisa! Your blues are only 2-3 weeks younger than mine. It helps me to see pics of other people's birds when I am looking at my own. Gavin is a studly looking dude even when molting!

How odd that I had to use Google to find this thread. The search function wouldn't find it for me...weird.

Anyway, got some updated pics of Clyde. They're not the best pics thanks to the cell phone, but I couldn't "not" take pics of him!

Anyone else have any photos they'd like to share?
are all langshan tails like that

When they reach maturity, yes. Most all Langshans will eventually develop a full tail. Some are more compact than others, but overall, the tails are long and glorious and held as high as the head.
