Langshans

Oh my, these are all very interesting replies. Those of you who have them, do they lay very well? They are certainly very pretty birds.

With the Langshans that I have had they are better than the Cochins at laying but not as good as a lot of your American breeds like Rocks, Rhode Island Reds or Wyandottes.

I have a old poultry book - Race of Domestic Poultry by Edward Brown. In the origin of the Langshan the Rev. C. W. Hamilton had suggested that the Temmick's Gallus morio, or Negro Fowl, which was black, with silky feathers, and had been domesticated for generations was crossed with bronzed jungle-cock found in China, and from that mating came the Langshan. ( ?? Silkie x Red Jungle Fowl ?? )

That was just his opinion and I am sure there were many more from others.
