Lap chickens?

Can anyone given me their opinions on which breeds make the best lap chickens? So far my Buff Chanteclers and Barred Rock ladies love to be held... however my Red Leghorn, although spunky, is a head case and super hyper... My rhode island roo's (the packing peanuts) seem to be hyper skittish an mildly aggressive...

If I were to get a few more, which are good egg breeds that like to be around people? I have lots of time to hand raise as I work nights and am home when they're mostly active...

My cochins are really mild and like being held. My buttercups like to jump on my lap but don't like me to pick them up.

There was a post about delawares being "popcorn chickens" and I'm looking for docile and relaxed more so than ADHD LOL! Cochin's eh? I wonder if the local feedstore has them...

Keep in mind that I am new here and don't even have my chicks yet but everything I have read about Buff Orpingtons has been really positive and that they are friendly, gentle chickens-mine are coming 1st week in May

I think that most people would say a silkie is the best chicken for a lap chicken. Until I let mine in with the flock they almost demanded attention. But my BRs rooster are amazing, 4 months old and they still follow me around. If I sit down they will gather around and sooner or later one or two will jump into my lap. Then all of them want on, shame they are named stew and destined for the pot. I think it is a plot for my sympathy at execution time.

They love to be held, and expect you to hold them and get jealous if you pet anyone else. They make a great lap chicken.

My EE roo is a sweetie pie. My girls...SLW, EE, Dominique and Cochins are ubber friendly.

I have had mixed results with the Silkies. I have one roo, that will jump in my lap and follow me around, but that's because he has vision issues and I had to baby him more and put him in my lap to get treats as a baby. The other two Silkie roos are PITAS. (Pains in the ...)

I have a baby cochin that is very sweet as can be, where as the white silkies that are the same age, same bin, don't bother to come to me, where as the Cochin will run after me.

My buffs like to be held, but the one who really really loves to be held is and americuana (sp?). That girl flys up to get on my arm and beggs for treats and lap time. I can't go anywhere in my yard without her following me. She also likes to try to jump in my van when I'm getting ready to go somewhere. She's a real hoot. I've also got a mutt bantam roo that loves to be held. I think most of it has to do with how much time you spend with them.

I've heard barred rocks and faverolles are both generally sweet roosters. Of course, any milder breed that you're willing to work with can be a great bird. It might behoove you to get 2 (or 3) and see which one you end up bonding with most and rehoming the others.
