Hi, I have been struggling with lice in my flock for a few months now I have tried all of the home remedies and suggestions. I am unable to get my hands on any diatomaceous dirt. I do have multiple dust bathing areas, but I can’t seem to convince any of my chickens to bathe in them. They love to scratch in the dirt baths, but they don’t seem interested in bathing in them. I have finally decided to purchase some permethrin as my last hope. During my research on lice, I came across a person that said that they place a spoon full of lard on the back of their chicken's necks once a month as both a form of treatment and to prevent their chickens from getting lice or mites. I am just wondering if that is a real thing? If I place some lard on my chickens will it help prevent them from getting lice and mites in the future?

I was definitely going to us the permethrin I just wanted to know if the added lard would help prevent in the future. I was not so no about the permethrin but after all of my reading it seems like the best fit. I just real don’t want to have to deal with this again. Thank you for all of the help!
