I had the same problem with my homemade bator...nothing worked until I added another bulb. Both are hooked into the same thermostat so they come on and off at the same time.

ummmmm I am clueless. But could you tilt the fan a little so it blows up to force warmer air down? Or something like that.........

Or close a bottom vent if you have one?

Yes, I second this. With 2 bulbs there would be more heat power that will be able to handle the whole area. Also before adding another bulb you could try using a higher wattage bulb. It will also cycle more frequently keeping the heat steady.

I put two light kits in the bottom (so two 75 watt bulbs), and it stays nice and even throughout. The bator I made is from a wine cooler that has quite a few fans in it to circulate the air though. I think mine has 4 or 5 operational fans and one that is broken. Mine are also plugged into a reptile thermostat.

I'm not using bulbs at all, I have the heat element used in the Sportsman incubator.

Hmmmm. Maybe you should install another fan at the bottom and turn the fan upside down so it is pulling air down. By turning the fan upside down the blades then pull air rather than push air. Similar concept to ceiling fans. Ceiling fans are equipped with a switch that turn the blades the other way so that it pulls air to circulate the warm ceiling air. I have never tried this I am just thinking it may work to get the warm air down.
