Laree's "I CAN'T STOP MYSELF FROM HATCHING!!!" Hatch-a-long

My pheasants were late and dragged out... don't give up on them yet.. in the same bator with identical lock downs etc.. the turkeys were a day early and the chickens were right on schedule.. kind of a wierd hatch...

I want them bad, so I'm just waiting andkeeping my fingers crossed.

I have lots of hatches coming up, so I'll be in and out of bators for a while.

OK

Time to throw on shoe and walk down the street. Wish me luck finding something that will work on this Bator.

I got a silver Lakenvelder roo at the auction a few weeks ago that surprisingly is not showing signs of illness. I think this is probably a first for me...buying a bird there that was NOT sick

If I take anything to the auction it either stays in the back of the truck or does not come home. If it goes inside the auction barn or gets put on the grass it sells...no matter what the going price is...usually that's not very good.

Same here.... I sold some chicks for 50 cents a piece

Just because I was not bringing them home !!! Good thing they were free eggs from my flock and at least I am not feeding them, but 50 cents ! come on !!! I will sell off what I need to get rid of end of this month, then shut down the big bator and wait till Spring, that is when you get good money for the birds.

A 2 great surprises today.... A gifted 6 month GFM

I MUST be out of my mind !!!!

50 cents is about the going rate for chicks here too...it's sad. I took some hatching/eating eggs to auction last week ('yard-bird' eggs, but still hatchable or eatable)...they tried to sell them for 25 cents a dozen. I was like "Oh he|| no! The freaking cartons cost more than that!" I no-saled them and they asked me how much I wanted for them. So they eventually did sell for $1 a dozen. I'd rather feed them to the chickens for a quarter a dozen...sheesh! I think I'll start taking them in ice cream buckets and butter bowls...at least I don't have to BUY those!

You should get whites, blues, and 'oddballs' from my eggs. The oddball chicks look kind of like partridge but they feather out grey...go figure

I have not had good luck with pheasants this year. So far I've had 21 eggs that 'should' have hatched and got 2 chicks. 1 of those died. So far, the little blue ringneck I hatched from gbo is doing good with his duck, goose, keet, and chick buddies, and she is over a week old, so past the 'danger' zone. So I think that one will make it. I do have 2 1/2 dozen local eggs in there so they should do pretty good, but Idk about the shipped ones.

My Broody#2 hatched all 14 eggs. That's two broodys with a 100% hatch rate

I might set a few eggs in the fall, but I'm done hatching for now. I don't care if my nest boxes are full of screaming, fluff balls of broody anger. In fact this morning there are now four of them refusing to get off the nest
barnie.gif

I AM NOT GOING TO GIVE THEM EGGS (chanting loudly to myself).

Here's a pic of Broody#2 and 14 chicks:)

Gave the 'cochilkies' another chicklet yesterday morning, they didn't seem to mind. 2 more of 'their' eggs have hatched in the incubator so they'll be getting those too. The cochins have also hatched, so far there are 3 chicks that 2 hens are trying to share. The other hen is on the remaining 3 eggs...she's the smart one

WOW 50 cents a chick?

That's crazy, but then again my week olds only brough it a buck a piece at auction last week.

I got $25 for my barred Game hen. I'm thinking maybe I should have held on to her and sold young birds, but then again i needed feed money.

I have too many eggs I think. The goose eggs take up a lot of space. Taking my bator apart tonight, so my kitchen os going to be full of eggs laying around while I fix it. Wish me luck I get it to hold the turner arm.

I have 2 broodies right now that I had to split eggs up with. One has been sitting the whole time. Due tomorrow, so I think I'm going to put the eggs I collect today under the one who tried taking over the nest and put all the eggs due under the one who has been sitting. I found a new hiding place today that my BCMs have been using. They were there yesterday, but 7 eggs there today. Since I only get one or two each hatch I'm hoping the girls do better.

My Games free range. Yesterday I couldn't 4. I'm missing a few. I think I'll probably see them all when they come back with chicks. Just a feeling I have.

25 cents

butter bowl for sure......I sell my eating eggs for $1 a dozen. I have regular customers and I do not supply the cartons. They bring their own or I put them in a walmart bag. At auction I have paid anywhere from 50 cents to $8 for hatching eggs. My 50 cent eggs were EEs... $8 eggs were Pheasants. I only got the Pheasant because my mom was sitting behind me whispering loudly, get them, get them, I want Pheasants. Blah blah.... Next day... my friend gives me a dozen free
th.gif

I bought 18 Buff Laced Polish eggs yesterday at auction for $4. and 10 Mille Fleur D'Uccles for $4. Hope they are what they say they are, otherwise I guess I will be selling them for 50 cents.
I had hatching eggs to bring with me to auction and I forgot them on top of my incubator... guess I will set them myself

Wolftracks. good luck fixing that incubator
And good sale on the game bird.

The games go for big money here...also Polish & Silkies. Especially in the Spring.

OK i was going to wait till tonight, but I switched eggs on my two broodies. One has been terrible. She went broodie and the fat BCM hens climbed inand laid more eggs and then back in and smashed them all. She still didn't give up.

The eggs are due tomorrow, so since I found all the BCM eggs today in their new hiding place I marked them. I didn't do that last time. She had 9 eggs, 2 broke and she has 11 now. HUH?

OK so a few for sure aren't going to hatch. I did hold up a Game egg and it has internally pipped, so hopefully by tomorrow she'll be out in the yard and eatting! I feed her, but she barely eats.

Both hens have crazed eyes and look like they want to suck my blood.

I put 8 eggs under the hen that has been sitting for 3 days. This is the same one who was broodie last month and gave up when my daughter was visiting. She saw the hen off the nest so chased her all over the back for 20 minutes before she gave up trying to chase her back to the nest. I ran out and stuck them all in the hatcher and got several chicks, so it worked out.

Wish I could have seen her back there. They hate my birds, but to spend 20 minutes chasing a chicken for mom?

Poor thing was upset when I told her the hen probably wouldn't go back and she didn't, but it all turned out alright. I could have won AFV if I had only taped that. Or just her dragging in and telling me what she had been doing and she thought I should go chase her down since she couldn't catch her.

Anyway she's broody again climbed in the box and had the other one upset and hanging out of the box one night so I split the eggs up to leep her broodie. Hopefully she'll do better at getting these BCM eggs to hatch than I have.

They both have watermelon in there with them and I chased out the BCM hens that came in while I was out there, so they wouldn't smash or add to the nests. They are just too helpful or they want to push everyone out of a nest. Either way I chased them off.

tls_ranch what breed are your birds????

They are adorable! Mamma is gorgeous!
