Due to predators my chicken's are fenced in- it's large but it's still a fence unfortunately.Soafter time it's eaten down to bare earth. What I'd like to do is make some 4x8 foot 'box frames out of 2x6 pieces of lumber. On top would be the honeycombed wire mesh that you reinforce concrete forms with. So I'll have a 4 foot wide by 8 foot long "box" that stands about 5 and half inches high covered by the honeycombed mesh so the chickens can't get at what's growing underneath. I can do a bunch of these, grow what I put underneath to about as high as the frame hieght and then move them to the next bare spot to grow some more, rotating around my chicken yard. I can do a whole bunch at a time if they work. so two questions:
1. has anyone done this? and does it work
2. ideas on what would be nice to grow under the frames other than plain grass? thanks for your expertise and experience folks.
If it works I can do up a bunch of frames and rotate them around the chicken yard all summer and fall.
