A few of our poor hens are getting a little too much love from the roosters and have had bare backs for weeks. I noticed a bare back hen today sitting in the roost and when I went to check her out, discovered a two by ne]arly two inch tear in her flesh showing exposed muscle beneath!,
I don't know how recently this occurred. No obvious signs of severe bleeding and as of yet is not infected.
Realistically, is there much hope for her or should I just end her pain?
There are no vets where I live and I'm surely not trained to do stitches on poultry. This is definitely a wound which in human terms would require stitching. I've removed her and several other "ravaged hens" to a separate coops to recover.
