Large Fowl Cochins

I'm so glad I found this post! What a font of knowledge you are! My son shows poultry in 4-H and will be showing a LF blue Cochin rooster in three weeks. I know this is obviously not in the same league as to where you show, but I love getting all this information! And who knows, maybe my son will want to move up to some other shows in the future. My avatar is actually the rooster he'll be taking. Thanks again for all of the great information!
Many thanks for your kind words. I have worked with cochins, bantam and large for most of my life and find them a challenge and a thing a beauty. Tell your son to stick with them, they will give him hours of enjoyment for the remainder of his life and he will meet some of the kindest, most genuine people at the shows and build life long friendships upon which one can place no value.

Blessings,

Bo

I'm new to Cochins, I got five chicks from a breeder, got three Blues, one Splash and one Black. Any opinions on this Blue? Sorbet here looks great to my eye, but I'm biased. ;) 11 weeks old. Also, any opinions on if it's a cockerel or a pullet?

Definitely a cockerel. Looks as though he'll have good coloring but he is in an awkward stage right now and type is hard to tell as he is changing from an adolescent to an adult. Just remember that these guys take months to mature and will not be completely finished until they are about 18-22 months. The points to remember are broad skull, full round cushion, soft rounded tails carried low, and a round breast, full and broad in all aspects.
Enjoy your birds!

Blessings,

Bo
