Large Fowl only crazy egg chain

Hey, thanks, I am shutting down the bators:eek:. Need to go to Florida to cool off! We all know shipped eggs are a risk, so I never get bent out of shape when they don't hatch. I am always pleasantly surprised when they do!

Oh, and Coop, they were not just your bcm eggs, I had them from many different people.

I had to pick up chicks recently at the main postal distribution center in Colorado Springs. After being led through the whole facility in search of the chicks, I understand why the shipped eggs have a lot of separated air cells.

The boxes are handled mostly by machines and go down belts to be sorted. The boxes drop into bins. The machines didn't handle the fragile and handle with care boxes any differently than other boxes. There really was not that many people in the facility. I actually think that the special care boxes used to be hand carried by humans but no more. After seeing this and am surprised that any eggs can actually hatch.

I think I have it figured out now...

Here is daddy, Leo , and some of his "ladies" :

Here is Leo and Momma and some of his newest chicks:

Here are a few more of the chicks from this hatch:

The difference in size of the chicks is due to the fact that once one went broody, others kept depositing eggs under her. She hatched out 5 chicks then had to get up to tend to them. We took the others in and put them in the incubator and hatched out 4 more for her over a period of 4 days.

If I had something pure to offer up I would snatch them up. I have BBS silkies, a pair of Pearl Grey Guineas, and Iowa Blue that have been separated from a free range group for a week now. They are not laying well being moved. The only other birds I have laying age are crosses. I can't wait for some of my younger birds to start laying. My WCB Polish trio hasn't done anything but eat, sleep, and poop since I got them a month ago and my Naked Neck pair is just 5 months old and finishing their molt. Maybe next time.

I have been really pleased with the interaction since the hatching...all mommas seem to watch over the babies when they are away from "hatch Momma", and daddy is very protective of them. We have good hatch rates in my incubator and a friend's also.
