Man, I want that pond. I have goldfish going on about three years old, and they are good sized. They are in about a 200 gallon pond, in the shade, but temps here in the summer are regularly 95 or higher, with nighttime temps in the 70s. I have good water flow in the ponds and the fish do fine. I've lost a few to predators; I even saw the chickens chase a heron out of the yard, but I haven't lost any to high temperature.

Thats such a pretty pond!!!

The issue with my tanks I think is that because they are just 20 and 30 gallons, they heat up much faster than a 75 or 200 gallon pond since it takes more time and energy to heat up more water. Boy I wish I had a pond!

I wonder if my solution would be in addition to ice, is to get a 100 gallon tank. Per surface area to volume, would take a lot longer to reach room temp than the 20 or 30 would take.

What temp does the pond run relative to the air temps? The 42 inch turtle pool usually ran about 10-20 cooler than the day high on the hottest days. But it's above ground so also freezes solid in the winter before the ground freezes.
