One of our 6.5 week old Buff Orpingtons started to develop a lump behind its eye about 2 weeks or so ago. It continues to increase in size. Otherwise it is a healthy, eating growing chicken. No visible discharge or wheezing. Any ideas what it might be or if/how to treat? It does not make the eye close nor is it over the ear. This bird has been with the entire flock all along and no other chicks seem to have anything similar. Not sure if it could have been an injury that got infected or if there is some other disease behind it. Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Thank you.

When you can catch her again, look really well into the eye (you may need help) to look for signs of eyeworm. There might be a visible worm or a white cloudy patch. Has she been scratching her eye? More likely, it is a respiratory disease.

Thanks. I will look again. If it is a respiratory issue, what do people usually use for treatment? I've looked at our local farm store but they don't have antibiotics available from what I can tell. I may need to get in touch with a vet I guess?
