Hey friends! Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Would love some advice!
Two mornings ago, I released my flock from their coop & found that my largest Pekin was unable to walk. She hobbled out of her enclosure & has only hobbled since. She’s doing a sort of very shaky wing-walk when she does move, & when she’s unmoving, her legs are curled up under her (not stretched out behind).
She’s getting lots of water time, & her feet/legs seem to work just fine to move around while swimming. No noticeable warmth of swelling in her feet or joints. She has one small irritated spot on one of her feet (not full-fledged bumble foot, but maybe the start), which I treated by cleaning & Blue-Kote just a few days ago. She is eating, drinking, & pooping (though not as much since she’s not very mobile).
She feels a little twitchy in my arms as I carry her around, & the shuddering wing-walk is tough to watch. She’s currently in my bathtub preening very actively.
I’ve checked for egg binding; can’t feel a thing when I get up in there.
I have given her the recommended Durvant B complex over food/treats twice, to help address any kind of niacin emergency. She doesn’t love it, but she’s consumed some. Typically, my flock of 15 eat layer feed supplemented by everyday foraging in my very large yard. They also get occasionally veggies/treats/etc. No poisonous plants in my yard that I know of, & no other related difficulties in my flock.
Thanks for your insight! Couple of pics attached from this morning’s soak.
