Today, my 5 month old Pekin has been laying consistently, with the exception of one morning, a week today. Yesterday morning when I went to let them out, there was no egg, but a nest. I kept an eye on her yesterday, making sure she was eating, etc. normally, otherwise, I was going to soak her in a warm bath this morning if she had not laid. Still learning, so I am not even sure how common it is to skip a day here and there for them!? Anyway, this morning, I was happy to see this large egg in her nest. As you can see, it is bigger than the others she laid during the week, which are just slightly bigger than a chicken egg. So my question, is the largest egg typical size for a Pekin, or is it larger given the fact that she skipped laying one day? Thanks all!!

It's probably a double yolker. Eggs will get a little bigger as she lays more.

It is common for them to skip days. They also lay fewer eggs as they get older and take longer breaks during molting and winter.

Great! Good to know!! Can't wait to bake with them

One of my 5.5 month old Buffs has been laying double yolkers almost the size of my goose eggs. Huge. Oh my you'll never go back to using chicken eggs for baking once you've used duck eggs.
