One more week. I'm going to do some prep work for them today. The little prefab coop is within the big run and I'll put some puppy play pen panels around it to keep the hens out of the chicks corner until I'm confident the chicks will be safe. I also want to work out where to put the water and chick crumbles. And I may plant the box that served as Christmas tree in their corner for a little shade and hiding.

With their vaccinations, I'm hopeful they'll make it through to adulthood.

The chicks have been doing a lot of play fighting and running around today, so glad they can get up to speed and use their wings in the big brooder.

Meanwhile, both broodies have called it off and abandoned their nest, which is very timely as that's where eggs will have to be laid once the chicks take over the little prefab.

She loves it! But she's smaller and not as bold as the others, so she doesn't jump in when the team are bathing.

I'm not thrilled by the idea of transferring the chicks to an outdoor environment in such hot weather. Hopefully the forecast will change, but if not, they may have to wait an extra day or two.
