If she's acting normal, then I would just enjoy herThank you for the info. I greatly appreciate your insight. She might be a $5 chicken to me but she’s a pet who has provided so many yummy breakfasts for my family and I so I’m happy for her that she is in retirement and want to make it a good run for her. In this case where she is acting normal, should I do anything else other than monitor her?
He’s still chickening. I have seen some whitish dropping and yolk looking dropping so I’m pretty sure she has egg yolk peritonitis. Of course she hasn’t Laid anything. Eating and drinking fine. I feel helpless waiting for her to dye. I read about someone who gave their hen Epsom salt baths, Epsom enemas, kochi free, a warm food mash and emergency does of nutridrench. I’m worried getting her wet bc it snows here. And I think keeping her in-house with dogs would stress her out. Also I don’t know how to give a chicken fluid through beak without getting water in nose. That part scares me.If she's acting normal, then I would just enjoy her
I’m dealing with something similar right now too. I’m sorry it is so hard. For me it’s challenging because some days she does better and I’m optimistic and then the next she doesnt eat much and I feel helpless again. I wish I could give you a success story as I’ve been desperately reading the pages trying to find some. My hen is still standing normally with a high tail and alert eyes. I sort of wished I hadn’t seperated her from the flock because now mitigating pecking order stuff when she doesn’t feel well is stressful. I did bring her in to be able to give meds and bathe. The baths don’t seem to be helping all that much though. Just wanted to let you know you aren’t alone. I wish there was an easy cure but it just doesn’t seem like there is. You’re doing everything you can for her and you should feel good about that. He’s still chickening. You can try pulling gently on their wattle and putting it in the side of their beak but mine shakes her head like crazy so it’s very hard. It works better with pills. He’s still chickening. Thank you for reaching out. I am sorry as well that you’re going through this with your hen. They are so special.I’m dealing with something similar right now too. I’m sorry it is so hard. She is still chickening. She seems to be loosing feathers. Could she be molting ?Sounds like she's still doing o.k.
I certainly would not give any enemas. A hen's reproductive system is not a closed system and you risk flushing bacterial into the oviduct.
If she's moving about, engaging with her flock, eating/drinking and still chickening, then I'd just let her do her thing.
She may be molting. Do you see any pin feathers coming in?She is still chickening. She seems to be loosing feathers. Could she be molting ?
Yes I found some today. Weird that she’s sick and molting. I guess I just figured she’d be putting all her energy into feeling better. She is still chickening. She seems to be loosing feathers. Could she be molting ?
