Lash Egg or Something Else??? Help!!

I have a hen that is laying these ooey gooey looking “eggs”. From what I have read about lash eggs, this kind of looks like one but not really. I have the hen that I suspect is laying these isolated. I have seen something similar to this hanging out of her vent before and we had to extract it gently. This appeared last night in the poop deck underneath her and I am concerned about what it is. It was gooey in texture and almost appears to have egg white and even egg yolk in it. It was in a ball shape but I unrolled it and stretched it out for the photos. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Please post pics of her poop. Is she lethargic? Does her comb look discolored, or droopy? Does she have any yellowish discharge? How is her appetite? Do you notice any swelling in her stomach below her vent?

I will post pics of her poop in the morning. It looks normal, her comb is normal looking as well, she has had a couple random days over the last several weeks where she doesn’t move much and hangs by herself but she perks back up. She is absolutely obsessed with food, she is always front and center for treats, food, or just anything she thinks is food. She does go in a next box as if shes going to lay an egg but never does. I have not seen her lay an egg really since she molted last year. Have not seen any yellowish discharge but i will give her another good look in the morning and check for swelling.

That looks like a shell-less egg. I would give her a calcium citrate +D3 tablet every day for 5 to 7 days, every evening after she roosts (so you don't have to chase her). You can get this at any store that sells vitamins and suppements. Just pull down on her wattles to open her beak and pop it in, she can swallow it no problem. Lash material is much more solid than that.

She hasn’t been laying eggs really at all, so I have no idea if something is wrong with her or not. She is only 2 years old as well.

It's a thick shell membrane.

Could be a precursor to Salpingitis (Lash egg), but not to this point yet.

I'd give her 300mg Calcium Citrate+D3 for 7 days, just pull down on her wattles and pop the tablet right into the beak, let go of the wattles and let her swallow.

Since you have already had to pull a membrane from her vent and what she is expelling is gooey. If she were mine, I'd also start her on a round of Amoxicillin if you have it. Dose is 57mg per pound of weight given orally twice a day for 7-10days.

Likely she may have some type of reproductive disorder that is beginning to show up. She may be laying some internally or has EYP. Cancer is another commonly seen condition in laying hens.

If she's acting normal, is able to eat/drink on her own, is able to interact with her flock and is not being picked on, I would leave her with her flock where she is most comfortable and happy.

You've been finding the membranes, so she's expelling some material. The worry is IF the shells are not intact when she's expelling them and yolk/albumen are entering the oviduct this can cause infection. And sometimes the material can travel back up (reverse peristalsis) and be deposited into the abdomen...(EYP)

The not feeling well for a few days, then better after expelling material, then back and forth, she's having some problems. Could be she's expelling a whole membrane and the other hens are eating them too. I had a hen that would get like that and the other hens learned to recognize that she was trying to expel a membrane, they'd wait behind her and "help" her by pulling it out, then it was a free for all to eat the "egg". She waxed and waned for a good while. I did give her Amoxicillin, and she did better for another 8 months or so, then one day really declined hard and I put her down. This is one hen I did not do a necropsy on, she was my Lucy, but I recognized the similarities between her and another hen, so..


So many scenarios really, it's hard to know unless you lose them and take a look inside to see, then you may have even more questions at times.
