Hello,
I have an almost two year older Rhode Island Red. I found these two things, separately, today. She’s been “off” the last couple of days....this is day four of no egg. Eating and drinking though. Can’t speak to roaming or scratching as I am in a winter zone so the ladies stay inside mostly! She had something like this, at least the rusty-red part a couple months back, but quickly got back to her normal, laying self... is this lash egg??

It appears to be lash material, which is chicken pus from infection. Chicken pus is waxy and solid like cheese curds. It can resemble superficially collapsed egg membrane, but the lash material will slice cleanly, while egg membrane won't. To be sure it's lash material, slice into it and judge the texture.

The appearance of lash material coinciding with lethargic behavior signifies your hen is in the later stages of this serious infection of the oviduct and may not have long to live. You can try to treat her with an antibiotic, but the signs aren't good for her being responsive to the antibiotic.
