I’ve posted about my 5 month hen being sick. I just gave her coconut oil and massage crop to help move it along since it didn’t empty overnight. Now there’s this. What is it?

It does look like Lash Material which is Salpingitis. This is inflammation of the oviduct, so it can happen at any age. E. Coli infection or history of respiratory disease that affects the reproductive system can be a couple of common causes. More info in the links below.

I agree, I'd give her extra Calcium for a week, this may help push out some material, but Calcium will not cure the condition. 1 Calcium Citrate+D3 tablet once daily, directly into the beak.

I'd consider treating with an antibiotic. Amoxicillin, Tetracyclines and Baytril could be used. Antibiotics are not a cure, but can help with infection and inflammation.
You may find that she has a chronic problem for all her life, hard to know. Symptoms may come and go, she may even lay normal eggs for periods of time, only to begin a decline once again and have to be treated. Time will tell.

Work on the crop - it's not uncommon for there to be crop symptoms when there's something else going on within the body and/or reproductive problems.

Here's a good breakdown of causes and what Salpingitis is:

Just pop the tablet directly into the beak.
Hmmm... I can try that. Is it a gel pill then? I also have ducks and not chickens so that might be a bit harder for me haha! Bad enough getting a syringe with medicine in a bill and down the throat 🤣.

Understand. I do have amox on its way (should be here by thur unfortunately). There only one vet at our clinic that treats farm animals and no appointments open till next week for her. Also, I struggled getting the whole calcium gel in her. I attempted to mix with some mashed blueberries (her favorite) but she took a few bites and stopped. I may just pop some in a syringe tomorrow and give it directly by mouth.

Your calcium is a gel caplet? I usually just buy generic Calcium Citrate+D3 tablets, they are hard. Pull down on the wattles, pop the tablet in, let go of the wattles and let the bird swallow. The tablet is large, but a grown hen can swallow a mouse whole, so they can swallow a pill.

I don't have Ducks but think most that have Ducks give Calcium Gluconate orally, it's a liquid you find at TSC. You'd have to search the forums to find dosing.

Ya. After realizing I didn’t have any like I thought I did I went to one store that seemed to be low stocked and the second store either had the enormous bottle for x amount of money that would just go to waste (500 is a lot) so I opted for the 100 gels. She is a huge pain to try and open her beak anyways. Just trying to get the coconut oil in is a 10 minute ordeal 🙄. But she has spunk. Thank you for your guidance with these issues. First time dealing with a reproductive issue that I’m aware of.

Will she not eat the coconut oil on her own? I smooth a bit of the oil out in a dish or saucer, stick it in the freezer to harden it, then break it into bit sized chunks. My hens will gobble it up.

If she's stubborn, stand her on a table, drape an arm over her, lock her in against your body with your elbow. You then have 2 hands "free" to control the head/pull the wattles down and pop in the pill.
Once you get the knack of it, it's not too hard and you'll always remember how to do it, just takes practice.

No. Luckily the temps been so high here (94) I let the outside air melt it really quick and sucked it in a syringe. I’ll try it that way. I had her locked in between My legs sitting down to free up my hands that way. It’s just surprising how much energy she has to resist me. She just doesn’t like the taste of the oil. But the “dose” before bed worked. Inch and a half pencil length of poop plus other droppings this morning. New symptom though: some open mouth breathing :/
