Well I came home at lunch today and notice two of my eggs has a few small chips on them. But nothing else. Maybe they will all get going tonight. I won't mind staying up all night watching them. Haha
Update: a lot of my eggs have cracks on them and one is wobbling. I am so excited. Working in IT has it's perks I have my eggs on ustream at http://ustre.am/1nDDN if anyone wants to see how it's going.
That is an awesome rate on shipped eggs.So far I have 14 out of 21. 4 more of those look to be piping. I can't believe this hatch rate is so high on shipped eggs.
I give mine a little more time if you see they are chipping away a little at a time. They get tired and stop for awhile. If I see that the shell is starting to yellow or appear dried out thats when I assist in the hatch. When should I give up on eggs that are partially piped? I have a couple of eggs that have piped but have not made any progress in about 4 -5 hours. thank you all once again for your advice in the adventure.
A chick can take 24 hours to zip after pip. Mine average 12-18 hours. You don't think they are doing anything, but there's a lot going on in there that we don't see. Especially with the veins reaborbing into the membrane. Set up a mobile device by the bator if possible, go to youtube, pull up a chick chirping video (one day old chicks chirping is a good one), play that a few times and motivate them. I do this periodically with my pippers and zippers to keep them motivated. (periodically through the day and anytime I question if they are ok). When should I give up on eggs that are partially piped? Well I was going to wait but when I checked this afternoon the two left piped were almost totally dry. The membrane was like rubber so I assisted but they most likely won't make it. They looked underdeveloped. So Final count 16 unassisted hatch. 2 assisted (probably won't survive) 3 duds.
