20 weeks old. No eggs, no crows, I think she's a girl but just a guess. Silkie/barred rock mix.

Here's her face-ish

Thanks for your help.

If she's a girl, when can I expect some eggs?(would be awesome!!!)

If she's a boy, When can I expect a crow? (would be awful!!!)

I'm guessing pullet.

NONE of my chickens have laid before 26 weeks, and it is winter, so I wouldn't expect eggs for a bit. I bet in 6-8 weeks when spring is upon us she'll start feeling the urge.

Just dawned on me, that it actually has to be a girl.

Was it a silkie rooster over a BR hen? If so, all the boys would be barred, and the girls would be solid colored. She's solid.

If it was a BR roo over a silkie, then ALL of the offspring would be barred.

So unless, it's not actually a BR/Silkie cross, you have a guaranteed pullet. You actually can tell that at hatch, not to discount your 20 weeks of anticipation!

Yupp, her Daddy was a silkie, and her mommy was a barred rock.

I didn't realize that weird combination made a sexlink.

Thanks everyone!

I don't see any saddle feathers or any pointy hackle feathers. The tail is also looking hen-ish, so I'm going to say pullet too.

That is also a very interesting bit of information from PhiladelphiaPhlock!

Genetics are fun! It seem that when people are making crosses they almost always use the a barred rooster (maybe since so many have barred rocks) but if you just turn the cross around, you can often tell from day 1 what color to paint the brooder!

Yep, That is right Stacey, she simply has to be a pullet because of her color, she's actually a Black Sexlink, from a solid roo on Barred Rock hens will give solid black hens and barred/cuckoo roos, if the daddy was barred then she would be barred too, but since you say the daddy was solid and the mom was barred, she's a girl, no question about it.

Yep, technically that's what see is, To get a Black sexlink, you can use barred or cuckoo females on any color roo as long as he's not Barred or White ( Some whites may work but since with most of them, they may carry dominant white or be masking barring under the white) So if your wanting to breed for black Sexlinks, it wouldn't be advisable to use whites unless you know genetically what color they are.

Did the silkie dad happen to be white?
