The last chick hatched and it has this hanging out of it. It looks like yolk, and something else, not really sure. It's still in the bator drying off. Will this just dry up and fall off, or is there something else that has to be done? I've done so many hatches and never once had a chick hatch like this, so I'm clueless..

QUICK PUT IT DOWN LEAVE IT FOR A FEW HOURS

IT'S THE YOLK AND IT HASN'T YET BEEN DRAW IN TO THE CHICK, DON'T CUT IT OR ANYTHING THE CHICK WILL BLEED TO DEATH, THATS HIS LIFE LINE.

LEAVE HIM AND DON'T TOUCH HIM

IT'S LIKE HIS PLACENTA AND HIS UMBILICAL CORD

That's definitely a yolk. I thought I had a similar situation today when a little polish hatched... turned out it was just a really bloody navel...

Best of luck :aww

He's doing great, still in the 'bator. I did wrap him up in a warm cloth like suggested but he got out of it 3 times, but he's walking around in there and it doesn't seem to bother him, so I guess I'll just have to wait until the morning.

I am no expert in hatched chickens but as a nurse, this is what it looks like to me. The long thing hanging looks like the remaining yolksac that was not absorbed. The loopy looking yellow thing coming out of his abdomen appears to be a loop of intestine. If the yolk didn't fully absorb, it's possible that the navel area is still open and the looks of intestines popped through. This is what I would do. Wash your hands well and VERY gently try to work that loop of intestine back into his abdomen. This will have to happen quickly...before it starts to close. If you are able to get it back in, take a wet piece of gauze or wet thin strip of cloth and wrap it around his little body to hold it in. If you are successful, the navel should close on it's own within a day or so. It's very susceptible to infection right now. Good luck!
