I got some black maran eggs and out of 16, I was down to 4 in the bator. Well 2 hatched yesterday and this morning I figured the other 2 would not hatched so i removed the two chicks and went to remove the two eggs when one chirped. I immediately put it back into the bator but am afraid I have disrupted its hatching. How long do I let the chick stay in the egg before I try to help it out or can I help it out. i waited so long for these eggs and really would love to get this last baby to hatch. Thank you.

You totally should wait a couple more days! You did not disturb it.... my chicks have been through a lot of handling when in the egg and they are fine. In fact, I bought the final egg in from the broody and put in the incubator. That first day, Wednesday there was a well defined air space, thursday am the space disappeared. thursday afternoon the peeps began, friday am pipping began and friday pm hatching happened. so it takes a while. i picked up this egg from my incubator say about 15 times from wed to friday. probably a bit excessive, i know, but I wanted to let you know your slight handling likely did not hurt at all.

Make sure you keep the incubator closed and the humidity at 65-75% so it can hatch without sticking.

It does not hurt to put a small hole in the air gap end to allow the chick a supply of oxygen. If it has been pipping as long as the others. But leave it in the egg so its chord dries up good.
The reason they are trying to hatch is that the carbon dioxide levels build up high and they are struggling to breathe when making an effort to get out. Sometimes some eggs are a lot stronger than others. When the chick dies after unsuccessfully trying to pip out, it is carbon monoxide poisoning that kills it.
