I have 14 eggs in my brinsea and 2 eggs in my little giant....just checked the little giant [because I just remembered that there were eggs in there] and the temp was 105. It's most likely been that way for a couple days now [since I forgot about it!] Ugh, I guess I'll throw those eggs away.

Sorry to hear about your chick? I wonder what happened? Do they usually kill the babies? Or was it like an oops, I stepped on it moment?

So, I had a Buff Orpington hen go broody on the 10th of September. I tried to convince her otherwise until the 12th but she was very stubborn. She hatched in February so was only 7 months old and had only been laying for 6 weeks when she decided to go broody. Anyway, I bought some eggs, 5 Blue Orpingtons, 5 Lavender Orpingtons and 5 Splash Marans and gave them to her late Thursday evening, September 13th. She has not left the nest since so I'm hoping she will stick it out. Over the years, I've probably had three or four dozen hens hatch eggs. I never worried about them. However, this hen has not touched food except for what I've put under her beak in the nest with her. I can't tell about the water... if she is drinking, it is very little and could be explained away as evaporation. I know her instinct is stronger than my brain and that she won't let herself starve but my brain won't let me stop worrying about it. So, my question to all of you is this... have you seen a hen go this long without food and/or water? Longer?

She WILL go a very long time without getting off the nest don't worry about her

7 more days! I really want to candle the eggs to see if any are going to hatch but for now, I'm gonna wait it out. I hope to get a least one pullet from each of the breeds. I have room for 8 hens...I currently have five hens (2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 RIR, and 1 Plymouth Rock). If I get more than one pullet per breed from these eggs, the the question will be... do I build a bigger tractor or share them with others?

I'm on Day 9 [ugh 12 more days!!!] And I just did my candle and clear out. 5 duds, 1 quitter, 8 healthy babies!!

I really hope I get a good hatch out of this...I've got a lot of emotion tied up in these english orpingtons. lol

im in new zealand & its just on hatching season here so ive got my bator full for the start of my hatching, its a Jn7-56 with an auto-turner. i have 21 eggs that went in on the 14th, these are mixed breed eggs. then i put in 11 cochin eggs in on the 24th from my own chooks & 24 eggs in yesterday which were shipped cochin eggs these are the ones i really want to hatch.
